We have just completed our first week in Menorca. After 5 trips to the Vodafone shop, we now have a Spanish SIM card for our mobile phone (0034-673-737-016) and a dongle (USB Modem) giving us internet access.
Our first Spanish lesson went well, though I'm still not certain when to use "estar" rather than "ser". The house we are renting has both Spanish TV and some limited English channels, so that gives a little more exposure. Jane had her first Pilates lesson on Monday - the only english speaker in the class. And when shopping earlier, I went into a healthfood shop and in my best spanish asked if they had any poppy seeds. I must admit to cheating - I had the Spanish Dictionary on my iPod reminding me how to translate "seed" and "poppy". It worked - we are now the proud owners of a packet of poppy seeds, ready for Jane to cook Poppyseed Chicken when we entertain our first guests on Thursday.
Church was fun on Sunday. They have a keyboard, but nobody to play it. My playing is about as good (?bad!!) as my spanish, but I got most of the right notes. Jane conducted the hymn singing, and several of the children came to the front and danced to the music! We have never seen anything like it before.
The first two days were hot and sunny. We even managed a couple of hours sunbathing on the beach, but have had heavy rain intermittently for the last 2 days. Jane swam in the sea & found it warmer than the swimming pool in our little housing complex. Our address is
